Christmas Countdown Printable

Christmas Countdown Printable

If you are anything like me (and I hope you are), you just can’t wait to get home and craft your Friday night away.  I KNOW RIGHT?!
Actually, this is not the case.  What is really happening is that I realized that tomorrow is December 1, and I still don’t have a Christmas Countdown craft done.  Since I don’t want to be up until the break of dawn making something, I decided to make a printable.  All I did was print all four pages in color, on card stock, whipped out my exacto and started cutting little flaps, then with a little help from one of Emma’s glue sticks, stuck the pretty page to the ugly circle page and voila! Christmas countdown done.  What I have realized now though is that I will have to spend the weekend making sure we have all the necessary items needed to complete the things on the countdown so Emma doesn’t open up day 14 and be all like, “Where’s my five bucks?” and I don’t have it.
So if you are really anything like me, you too can download the printable and have it ready long before sunrise tomorrow.  You can even type in your own activities if you are so inclined.  Whatever you like. I am flexible like that.
A few tips:
Use a ruler when cutting. A few of my cuts were pretty wonky.

When cutting the flaps, remember to only cut three sides and not all four. I am not telling you this because it happened to me, but because I just don’t want to you to have to waste valuable ink and cardstock when you get distracted and accidentally cut four sides instead of three. I care about your resources.

When you glue the pages together, make sure all the flaps are open. You know, otherwise you will glue the flap down too making this a relatively useless craft.

You can go all Craftinator on this project by adding embellishments  like glitter, or ribbon.  I actually thought it would be cute to stick little pieces of ribbon on each flap for easier opening, and then I was all like, forget that!
I hung this on my wall with glue dots, but you hang it however your crafty little self wants to.

Inspired Make-Up Storage - Sneak Peak

I think it can go without saying that I need to work on my photography skills.  A work in progress. Thankfully, there are a lot of free tutorials on the Interwebs .  I don't have time for all that right now though.  I almost didn't have time to snap these happy little pictures, where you can, in fact see what an awesome lawn boy my husband is. It is November and our grass is still green.

I have stored my make-up in several different fashions over the years, boxes, bags, messy drawers, so when I saw the cool things you can do with those cheap plastic drawers, I hopped on the bandwagon.  I also learned some things along the way.  Like, Mod Podge does not stick to plastic. AT ALL. I suppose a more experienced crafter could have told you this. But where is the fun in that?  I like to experiment, and sometimes, when you do, you come up with new things.  It's kind of rad like that.

If you want to make one of these happy little storage containers for make-up, or art supplies, or just because you need to occupy some time, here is a list of supplies you need:

Plastic storage container
1 can Krylon Fusion spray paint in your favorite color
Patterned scrapbook paper
Mod Podge

Then we can make one together, tomorrow, because today I have to vote.  See you then!

Hurricane Born

I have heard said that 9 months after a hurricane, there is a baby boom. I can attest to this personally, as hurricane Isabel came through Virginia Beach in late August 2003 and my little lady was born in May 2004. Go ahead, do the math. I mean, there are only so many activities one can do when there is no power and you are trapped in your home. Thankfully, we did not lose power once during hurricane Sandy, but there is only so much T.V. an eight year old is willing to watch, so what does any good mama do to ease the boredom? Why, craft of course.

Emma, ever the naive idealist, says, "You should start a blog mama, I bet lots of people would read it!" So I did. You should know that a search of the term "craft blog" on google returns about 2,000,000 options. No joke.  It's cray cray!  So here are a few things you should know about this little space.

  1. I will not now, or ever, claim to be an original crafter. If you see it here it is most likely because I saw it somewhere else first. Most likely Martha Stewart, who let's be honest, every craft idea in the history of craft ideas was thought of by her first.  Truth fact!
  2. I will show you, to the best of my knowledge, how I make these things so that maybe you can reproduce the amazingness and rejoice in talent you probably didn't even know you had.
  3. I might sell things from time to time. You can only give a crayon roll as a gift for so many years before people start questioning your motives.
  4. You are not obligated in any way, shape or form to purchase aforementioned items.
  5. My personal life will make it into this space often. I don't know what to tell you.
So, there you have it. Let's get our craft on yo.

About Me

You know those women that are incredible at everything they do? The ones that are patient, kind, creative, talented, inspirational, organized, and all around amazing? I am not one of those women. I am messy, and loud, and a tad bit impatient. Craft Mess is code for Life Mess. Let's be friends.
